How to void a transaction?
This article discusses how to void a transaction in a Trust Account register.
To Void or Delete?
When you delete a transaction, The Mortgage Office® removes the transaction from the register and recalculates all subsequent balances. You cannot get the transaction back unless you have a backup copy. Voiding a transaction is often a better option than deleting a transaction. Voiding leaves the transaction in the register (so you can maintain a record of it) but zeros the amount.
To void a transaction:
- Click the
Trust Accounts drop-down in the left panel of The Mortgage Office®.
- From the list of Trust Accounts that are listed, select the trust account drop-down to void the transaction in.
- From that drop-down, click All.
- You can also click any one of the client names under All to void the transaction directly from a client's ledger.
- With the grid open, select the record you want to void.
- Click the
Actions button to display a list of available actions and select
Void Transaction.
NOTE:
- If the transaction originates from another module, confirmation message will be shown asking: "The transaction you have selected to modify originated from another module. Please note that the source transaction will not reflect any of the changes made here. Do you want to continue?".
- Click
Yes to confirm, or
No to abort changes.
- Click
TIPS:
- If the record you want to void is not visible, use the grid's vertical scroll bar to scroll the contents of the grid up, or down or use pagination from the bottom of grid, or search for the transaction by entering your own search criteria in quick search. For additional information, see How to Use Find and How to use the Data Grids.
- If you are viewing the register in "grouped" mode and you void a bank deposit, all transactions included in the bank deposit are individually voided.
- Transfers consist of two offsetting transactions, therefore, when a transfer is voided, both transactions are voided.
