NOTE: Please note that any changes you make will also apply to all records of that type. **For example**, if you change a field called "Birthday" to "Birth Date" in the loan file, that field name will be changed in all loans. ### How to edit a custom field in a holder file: - Click on ![MPS custom letters](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/hs-fs/hubfs/TMO%20APP%20Icons/MPS%20custom%20letters.png?width=15&height=15&name=MPS%20custom%20letters.png) **Mortgage Pool Servicing** in the navigation panel of The Mortgage Office®. - Click the **CMO** drop-down. - Click **All Certificate Holders**. - From the Certificate Holders grid, select the holder you want to modify. TIP: If the record you want to edit is not visible, go to the bottom-right-hand side of the screen and use the page-scroll bar to find the record, or click the **Find** box ![FindSearch icon box](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/hs-fs/hubfs/TMO%20APP%20Icons/FindSearch%20icon%20box.png?width=231&height=27&name=FindSearch%20icon%20box.png) at the top-right-hand side of the screen to search for the record by entering your own search criteria. For additional information see [How to Use Find](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/knowledge/how-to-use-find?hsLang=en) and [How to Use the Data Grids.](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/knowledge/how-to-use-the-data-grids?hsLang=en) - Click **![PENCIL (NEW) no outline](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/hs-fs/hubfs/PENCIL%20(NEW)%20no%20outline.png?width=18&height=17&name=PENCIL%20(NEW)%20no%20outline.png) Edit** at the top of the screen or **double-click** on the selected file. - Choose ![custom fields-1](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/hs-fs/hubfs/custom%20fields-1.png?width=18&height=19&name=custom%20fields-1.png) **Custom Fields** from the menu on the left. - In the **Custom Fields** page, in the **All** tab, click on the field you wish to edit. - Click on the ![verticle dots with border](https://help.themortgageoffice.com/hs-fs/hubfs/verticle%20dots%20with%20border.png?width=42&height=28&name=verticle%20dots%20with%20border.png) **Properties** button from the list of options in the panel at the top of the page. - **Edit** the following information: | **Field:** | **Description:** | | --- | --- | | **Tab** | Select the **Tab** from the drop-down list. It defaults to the currently selected tab. | | **Name** | The field's **display name** (maximum of 40 characters). WARNING: If you want to use custom fields with **Microsoft Word** mail merge to create custom letters and notices you **must abide** by Microsoft's mail merge header record restrictions when naming the custom field. The **restrictions** are as followed: - The field name must start with a letter. - Each subsequent character must be a letter, a number, a space, or the underscore character. - The field name cannot contain any spaces. - The field name cannot be larger than 40 characters. | | **Type** | Select the **field type** from the drop-down list. The following types are supported: - - Text - Currency - Number - Percent - Date - Time - Date/Time - Yes/No - Phone - E-mail - URL - Pick List (Select Only) - Pick List (Text Editable) TIP: The **Email** and **URL** fields are handled a little differently than the other field types. When you work with these fields, you can click them to automatically address an email message to the contact or launch your default Web browser and display the website in the field.   Unlike other fields, you **cannot** click on these fields to **edit** the value. You must use the **Tab** key to move to the field. | | **Edit List** | Click on the **Edit List** hyperlink to edit the available list values in the **Pick Lists**. TIP: Pick List (**Select Only**) - Specifies that the list is displayed by clicking the down arrow and that the text portion is **not editable**. This means that the user cannot enter a new value. Only values already in the list can be selected. TIP: Pick List (**Text Editable**) - Specifies that the list is displayed by clicking the down arrow and that the text portion **is editable**.
